Aleta Kids - Anchovy

anchovy

Aleta created this anchovy to encourage your child to create patterns with the rope by weaving it throughout and coiling it around the crevices.

Patterns are everywhere and they provide a sense of order in what otherwise might appear chaotic. Patterns help children learn to make predictions and to sequence, both of which foster the development of mathematical and logical skills. This fish will help them with the development of their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

This anchovy is also a great decorative piece for any corner of your child's room.

DESCRIPTION:

We use beautifully sanded European beechwood with our toys to ensure they are safe for children. We do not use burnishes because we love the patina the toy acquires over time, but you could apply any natural oil or beeswax from time to time if a more standard finish is desired. Please note wood has different hues so sometimes the color may differ slightly from the one on the image.

The anchovy measurements are:

(inches) 7'' x 1.57'' and thickness 0.35''

(cm) 180 mm x 40 mm and thickness 9 mm

Each anchovy comes with a cotton lace, one yard long (90cm), conveniently packed in a cotton bag.

Recommended for ages 4 and up. Includes one anchovy, lacing string, and cotton bag.

About ALETA

why wood

We want our children to play with toys made of natural materials which nourish a child’s senses and connect them to nature. We choose wood because is sturdy, safe (non-toxic), environmentally friendly (biodegradable and renewable), durable (wood toys can be easily passed along from generation to generation) and beautiful.

why beech wood

Beech is an important and widely-used hardwood in Europe. Its hardness, wear-resistance, strength, and excellent bending capabilities make this hardwood perfect for our toys. We love its pale cream color, sometimes with a pink or brown hue. Its grain is straight, with a fine to medium uniform texture and it has no characteristic odor. This wood is also used in flooring, boatbuilding, furniture, musical instruments and turned objects.

where does our wood come from

Toys made with sustainable wood grown on managed plantations are the best choice. Our wood comes from responsible German forests and has the FSC and PEFC certifications.

wood finish

We take our time to get a very smooth sanded finish to ensure our toys are safe for children. We do not use burnishes because we love the patina the toy acquires over time. Just on our teethers, which need more protection, we use beeswax as a sealant to keep them in a good shape and condition.

why beeswax

In order to preserve wood from humidity, we choose certified beeswax (the natural substance which bees create and use to build the comb structures inside their hives) because is non-allergenic and non-toxic. It provides protection and a soft, warm finish that produce a matte sheen on the wood.

how to keep our toys clean

Wood has natural antibacterial properties, but once in a while it is necessary to clean wood toys. We recommend you use a gentle cleanser on wooden toys: a simple vinegar and water solution or a mild dish soap and some warm water. Gently wipe down with a washcloth, then allow the toys to air dry.  If there is a really tough stain, use a very fine grit sandpaper to buff it out and follow the wood grain to avoid cross-grain scratches. Coat the toy with beeswax to better preserve and protect it from heat and moisture.
